LONG HOUSE

Constantia, Cape Town, South Africa

Set beneath the established, leafy canopy of Constantia, this family home was designed as a calm and practical retreat — a space that feels grounded in its natural surroundings while supporting the rhythms of everyday life.

The architectural language is intentionally simple. Clean lines, honest materials and generous openings allow the garden to become part of the interior experience. Soft natural light filters through the trees, creating a constantly shifting backdrop that connects each room to the landscape beyond. The layout was carefully considered around family living. Open-plan spaces encourage connection, while quieter corners offer privacy and retreat. Durable finishes and thoughtful detailing ensure the home is not only beautiful, but highly functional — designed to evolve with the family over time. This project is a celebration of understated design: warm, welcoming, and deeply rooted in place.

"From the moment I met Suzaan, I knew she was the perfect architect for us. Her warm, beaming smile was a window into the pleasure it would be to work with her. Her professionalism and creative, yet functional approach, was right up our alley and I cannot recommend her highly enough."
